The Library Foundation

The Library Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1982 to raise private funds for Virginia Beach Public Library. While we work in close partnership with the Library, we are governed by our own Board of Directors.

The City of Virginia Beach funding covers the Library’s basic operations—buildings, core collections, and staff. The Foundation raises private funds for programs and resources not covered by tax dollars. These programs include early learning and literacy support for children and families, teen creative spaces, digital literacy programs for adults and community learning opportunities.

Our funding comes from a wide range of generous donors—individuals, foundations, and corporations—who believe in the power of public libraries to transform lives.
