The Virginia Beach Library Foundation is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $6,000 grant from Virginia Humanities and WHRO to support the Foundation’s upcoming Zine Fest project.
This funding will help bring together local creators, artists, writers, and community members to celebrate the vibrant world of zines—self-published works that empower individuals to share their stories, ideas, and artistic expression. Through workshops, community engagement activities, and the Zine Fest event itself, the project will provide opportunities for participants of all ages and backgrounds to explore creativity, build connections, and amplify diverse voices.
“We are incredibly grateful to Virginia Humanities and WHRO for their support of this innovative project,” said Kimberly Knight, Executive Director. “This grant allows us to expand access to creative expression and community storytelling while highlighting the library’s role as a space for learning, collaboration, and cultural engagement.”
The Zine Fest will showcase locally created zines, offer hands-on opportunities to learn about zine-making, and create a welcoming space for emerging and established creators to share their work. By fostering creativity and encouraging community participation, the event aligns with the Foundation’s mission to support lifelong learning and enrich the programs and services of Virginia Beach Public Library.
Additional details about the Zine Fest, including event dates, participant opportunities, and workshop information, will be announced in the coming months.
The Virginia Beach Library Foundation extends its sincere thanks to Virginia Humanities and WHRO for investing in creative community programming and helping make this exciting project possible.
